Quotemehappy car insurance - new reg number increases premium 35%!

I'm transferring a personalised number plate to my car, and on notifying Quotemehappy using their online policy management system, I was quoted a 35% increase in my premium!
It's gone from £1300 to over £1750 - same vehicle, just a different number plate.
I contacted the company, saying that this surely must be an error, and authorising them to make the amendment manually and charge me their standard admin fee. They replied saying that the 35% increase was correct because "Unfortunately, when a car has a personalised number plate, this can increase the risk of vandalism and/or theft."
Even if there were data showing a correlation between personalised VINs and vandalism/theft (which I haven't been able to find, myself), I fail to see how a 35% increase in my premium can be justified.
I've replied to this effect - we'll see what happens.
Meanwhile, aside from the usual admin charges being applied for mid-term changes to policies, has anybody else experienced any similar increases in premium for immaterial changes to their vehicle?

I have never heard of a premium increase due to a cherished number.
I also fail to see how a cherished number makes a car more theft attractive. Surely it makes it more noticeable therefore less theft attractive.0 -
I fell out with quote me happy after the quote they gave me included a £200 "young driver" excess in the smallprint, on top of the standard voluntary and compulsory excesses. Always read the smallprint!
I also don't see how a personalized number plate should make any difference to your insurance. Probably just another case of an insurance company trying to squeeze every penny they can from the unsuspecting customer #84 Make £2020 in 2020 challenge

I suppose a personalised number makes the car stand out more, and so by bringing attention to it, may make it more of a nickable target. (or mindless vandalism by those are envious)0

Is your reg "FU AVIVA" or something similar? :rotfl:All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0
