In the UK - For anyone that hasn't seen or heard of the 'Smartflower' yet, here's an article and video on the plug n play 3.2kWp tracker, which is to be offered for sale in the UK:

Portable 3.2kWp ‘smartflower’ lands in the UK
Renewable energy company, Ecolution has announced that it has secured exclusive distribution rights for what is claimed to be the world’s first portable, all-in-one solar PV system.

The smartflower is a portable 3.2kWp solar array which unfolds automatically as the sun rises – tracking its path with a dual-axis tracking system and folding into the unit’s housing when the sun sets. The system’s 18m2 of solar modules are arranged like a flower’s petals and fan out when fully deployed.

In the US - Warren Buffet suggests he's willing to invest $30bn in wind and solar:

Buffet to double down on solar and wind investment
The U.S. tycoon revealed he is ready to pour another $15 billion into his Berkshire Hathaway Inc.'s renewable energy interests, taking expenditure to $30 billion.

Nice. A bit steep at £15k plus vat though!

In other news, a bunch of solar farms are opening to the public on 4th July. See

    What a good idea!
My PV system: South West England, 10x 250Wp Trina Solar panels, Fronius Inverter, South facing roof, 35° pitch with no shading.

    Hi

Pretty ... but so much to go wrong and at that size, definitely one for the local planning office to pontificate over ....

I really don't understand the 'Stingray' idea of packing it away underground at night (... Anything can happen in the next half hour! ) .... after all, when it's dark you can't see it anyway ... bit of a gimmick, nice but ....

Ah, but you didn't fast forward the video...

You see the pit that the array drops into is actually a Thunderbirds style powered pool.
With the water heated as the day progresses so that when you get home from a long day at the orifice you can get in and turn the pool into jacuzzi mode (aka TB 8 and a bit) and chill out.

Of course, they assume that if you have 15k to spend on this funky array then you probably already have the sub-tropical volcano island on which to site it!!!
4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.

Presumably because it's now well within many Hawaiians' ability to fit solar panels to their roofs, but setting up a geothermal system in the back yard isn't practical for the average person?

Not saying that geothermal is necessarily a bad thing, just it's not really suited to home use.

Ah yes, I'm not saying it's a bad solution, just that it isn't suitable for the average householder as solar PV is. Just as we can debate the relative merits of nuclear power, but we're not going to have 4 kW domestic nuclear reactors powering individual homes from their lofts or basements in the foreseeable future ;)
