It would be interesting to see on an individual project level if people tend to soften their stance a few years down the line after a solar/wind project has been built.

There was a nine turbine wind-farm built near me, about 5 years ago. There was quite a lot of opposition at the planning stage but I haven't heard a peep since it went online.

Talking of pylons, I saw some of the new type, that there was a design competition for about 10 years ago. I didn't get a very good look, because of low sun and a busy motorway, but they look rather elegant. It'll be interesting to see how they age, though.

That’s the way of the world. Once it’s built you just have to live with it. A bit like Brexit; lots of very strong opposition at the time but not heard much since it all went through despite a lot of people (perhaps even more than before) thinking we would have been better still in Europe. (I am not trying to start a Brexit debate, just pointing out that once something is all done and dusted and there’s nothing you can do about it you move on.

I’m sure it will be the same with electric cars, come 2030.

Well Brexit has got a largely free pass because Covid, and now WW3, have disguised the chaos and price rises. I'm waiting for the whining when Brexiters come home from the Costas to face massive roaming charge bills.

Whereas I seldom travel and am glad I no longer subsidise those richer than me who can afford to through higher phone charges, but the EU was always about supporting the haves at the expense of the have-nots.

I don't travel, either. However, my mobile phone costs didn't go up as a result of roaming charges being stopped. Neither did yours.

So we are both no longer subsidising those who travel to Europe getting free calls when they travel by us paying higher monthly rental charges - I call that a win.

I've been on the same tariff since long before Brexit. It hasn't changed. I haven't subsidised anyone. Roaming charges were just icing on the cake for the telecoms companies until the EU stopped it.

Wow, I bet your network provider loves you, customers who don't shop around are worth their weight in gold and subsidise the loss leader tariffs for those who can be othered too.

I pay a pound a week for more calls, texts and data than I ever use. I get a bonus, every 12 weeks, of either more minutes, texts or data, so it gets cheaper year by year and that isn't taking inflation into account.

It doesn't alter the fact that phone tariffs didn't rise when roaming charges were stopped.

I apologise for mentioning the B word. It wasn’t done in any political context, just as an example of human nature.
