They should be getting paid for that 35MW the way i understand it, Any FC is simply a by-product and not the reason it was built, the contract is confidential though so who knows, But that is how it was put in the documentary i watched if i remember correctly.

The Tesla Rep seemed to be hinting they should be paid for that service and that they are in talks, iirc.

It was built primarily for frequency response.

When to many homes leave the grid its going to be industry and business left paying high prices and that will hurt the economy.

But in Australia homes are not leaving the grid, some 200,000 buildings are being added to the grid each year

Not how It looks to me, But Its apparently in 2 parts so that could confuse most a bit, 11.7 MWh for FC under Government control, And 90 MWh for load shifting for profit, so totally over sized if it was just for FC, The french system is only 7MW, uk with all its wind only has 10MWH (6MW) and is coping. Im going to blame the press for for combining them together when they shouldn't.

    wiki.

70 MW running for 10 minutes (11.7 MWh) is contracted to the government to provide stability to the grid (grid services)[16] and prevent load-shedding blackouts[17][18] while other generators are started in the event of sudden drops in wind or other network issues. This service has reduced the cost of grid services to the Australian Energy Market Operator by 90%.[19]
30 MW for 3 hours (90 MWh) is used by Neoen for load management to store energy when prices are low and sell it when demand is high.[20]

So built for frequency and oversized. Thought you said it wasn't for frequency response, and that they weren't being paid for it?

This article is interesting, if I'm reading it correctly, as it seems to be both a direct price for PV leccy at time of generation (2c/kWh) and a separate price for stored PV leccy at 13c/kWh.

This is interesting to me, as criticism can be made of stored generation prices, but I'm assuming LADWP will be buying both, so getting an overall cost /kWh, somewhere in between the two, and presumably weighted towards the lower price across a whole day, so cheap, and reliable?

Los Angeles seeks record sub-two cent solar power price
The city’s municipal utility is readying a 25-year power purchase agreement for 400 MWac of solar at $0.01997/kWh along with up to 200 MW/800 MWh of energy storage at $0.013/kWh.

And Brazil goes even cheaper, at 1.75c/kWh:

Brazil auction sets record low solar price of US$17.5/MWh

Plus, I think the auction was oversubscribed by 130x!

    Hi

Although $0.13 may seem pretty cheap, it may be a good idea to review how comparatively expensive (10x?!) the article may actually convey it could be! ...;)

Sorry Z, I can't follow that? Do you mean v's the additional storage option at 6.6c/kWh? I'm a bit lost!

Yes, got it now, I completely mis-read the figure, so the stored leccy price is 1.3c/kWh more, giving a total of 3.3c/kWh. I'm utterly shocked, that's incredible. I'm so shocked I'm still not sure I've got it right, that sounds way to good.

I'm reading (it now) that the adder is only for the stored leccy, whereas if it was on all leccy, that would seem decent, but stored only is ............ I don't know what to say! Do you read it that way too?
