Solar ... In the news

Which part of the thread title didn't you understand? Anyway, in local solar news today was the fourth anniversary of my system!
Isn't the thread about solar?
Why not direct your comments to The Guru? He is the one who continually diverts any perceived criticism of Solar to an attack on Nuclear generation. This is not just for my posts but for anyone who dares to comment. Look at any thread in this section of the forum and see who changes the subject from solar.
Congratulations on your 4 year anniversary, you must be very proud!0 -
It's great to see the government finally investing in solar again.
I would post a link to the article I found, but I can't post links yet ...:T

This sounds odd to me, but hopefully it's true and could work:
Researchers Create New Passive Cooling Material That Uses No Energy Or WaterOkay, it sounds too good to be true. But researchers at the University of Colorado–Boulder claim they have invented a new passive cooling material that can reduce temperatures even in direct sunlight while using no energy and no water. The breakthrough could be applied to power plants, which traditionally generate tremendous amounts of heat and use large quantities of water for cooling. It could also help reduce temperatures of solar panels, which suffer a fall-off in efficiency if they get too hot. “Just by applying this material to the surface of a solar panel, we can cool the panel and recover an additional one to two percent of solar efficiency,” said Yin. “That makes a big difference at scale.”Mart. Remember way, way back in 2014 when the world installed 40GWp of PV? Or do you know that the UK now has about 13GWp of PV?
Well, China's gone a little better, installing 10.5GWp in July alone, and is on target to install more than 40GWp this year. [Edit - this article points to an even greater 13.5GWp in June - China Brings 13.5 Gigawatts Of Solar PV Online In A Single Month M.]
In fact they've just exceeded their 2020 target of 105GWp, with suggestions they may actually install 230GWp by 2020.
Show offs!

Silicon / Perovskite cells, get it wrong, and the gains are small, but get it right .....
Dutch researchers model perovskite performanceA team of researchers at the Netherlands’ AMOLF institute has modelled the performance of tandem perovskite/silicon solar cells under real-world climate conditions, and found that the tandem cells are little more efficient than the Si cell alone. The research shows, however, that if correctly optimized, this type of cell could perform at efficiency levels above 38%.

Anyone bricking it about the idea of PV?

As Mart is enjoying a break (hope not too literally!!!) and I'm still off with a crappy chest infection, here's some musings from around the solar web...
China installs over 112GW of Solar capacity, beating its 2020 target by 3 years - update on Marts figure from last week.
Biased models? Biased models and what happens if you shift that bias Solar & Wind growth -
Solar and wind energy have been underestimated by analysts and politicians again and again and again. They have gotten cheaper and scaled up faster than even the most optimistic forecasts of a decade ago, or even a few years ago.
MCS fees to more than double for installers - normally a hidden cost that is added in to overal price, this news could lead to some installers seperating it out as an additional line item.4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.

cheers tbl. now home but more scroll and click with left hand than type and post so won't be putting much up for a while, so enjoying limks.
right colar bone and elbow broke so mustn't move em, an d broken right side of pelvisis pain in the butt.

Hi All
Well, for a small & totally random news article it certainly covers a lot ..
Firstly, something which normally sets the dogs barking ... but this time it's a pretty big dog doing it ...This week, Duke Energy Florida announced that it will terminate all plans to build its Levy Nuclear Project.
And as part of a deal with the Florida Public Service Commission, the company will instead invest $6 billion in solar energy, smart meters, and grid modernization as well as electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and a battery storage pilot program.
.. so whilst talking about Apple carts, I can't help but remember some heated conversations a few years ago comparing the massive generation capacity of ..(:shhh:, don't mention the 'N' word).. against solar potential .. so, with massive wooden spoon in hand and a glint of mischief in the eye ...Duke’s move reflects global trends that see surging growth for solar power as prices plummet, while increasingly uncompetitive nuclear power stagnates.,,, by year’s end “solar PV could rival global nuclear capacity,” and by 2022, it could double current nuke capacity ...
Ah, Almost forgot, a snippet to keep the 'industrial & commercial' roof proponents happy ...... A Brooklyn Navy Yard rooftop covered with solar panels, February 14. State officials said investments in renewable projects like this one will help replace the power lost with closure of Indian Point nuclear plant ...... Meanwhile, new U.S. nuclear builds have stalled because the industry is so uneconomic that half of the country’s existing nuclear power plants are losing money...... Duke’s deal will add 700 megawatts (MW) of solar energy ...

 .. Stop that now! ... or the dogs'll never be :silenced:
Well, it is nearly Friday & by the looks of things Mart would still be typing this on Monday ...
