Do I have to complete self assessment?

Options
Hi everyone. I registered as self employed in July 2012 and wanted to know if I need to complete a self assessment for 2011/12?
Prior to July last year I worked in the public sector as PAYE. I'm new to this and unsure what to do and would welcome advice from those with experience!

Thanks in advance.

Nope, first one will be 2012/13, and that must be done by 31st January 2014, along with any tax owed.

I think I sent mine off (paper) on about April 19th last year, and had a tax bill the week later (although I do owe them a 6-figure sum, which may explain why they were so eager). I've paid my 2011/12 tax bill today. The earlier you do it, the quicker it goes through.

Brilliant! Many thanks and will take advice to complete early for 12/13 tax year.

I can only speak of HMRC as I find them, and the tax department is quieter before about July/August.

If applying for Tax Credits, the advice is to get in early for exactly the same reason.
