The management can still join a union!Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
What a strange situation where a customer can dictate to a service supplier that they need to close a site down and relocate.
I'll make the assumption that the transport company has made the classic error of allowing 1 customer to supply it with more than 50% of it's business and is now at that customers mercy.
Why is that an error? say the company started off with 30 trucks and 3 contracts each needing 10 trucks to service them, company number one comes along with a large contract needing a further 30 trucks, are you saying that because two thirds of the work is with one contract they should knock it back?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
No, but they should look to quote for more contracts to reduce their risk.
I used to work for a large HVAC manufacturer who, as part of the production process, fitted baffles to some units. These were purchased from a nearby company who made the mistake of not chasing further contracts elsewhere due to the level of work we generated for them.
Then one day we found a cheaper supplier elsewhere in the UK & immediately switched. 3 days later the original supplier closed-down as a result of losing the contract. In total (including those who worked for their contractors on other projects) over 250 people lost their jobs.
The company I am on assignment with at the moment is using it's size as a customer to force all our suppliers to reduce the price of the components they supply us. The end result is that one US-based supplier simply closed their doors & a Scottish based supplier has also now gone under.Never Knowingly Understood.
