Credit card paid twice by mistake

Hi everyone, looking for some advice.
Rang up and paid my barclaycard over the phone. The payment was referred after I put all details in and went through it with an advisor.

Have just checked my online statement and the referred payment has now gone through twice. Rang Barclaycard and they have said they can't stop it or refund it until it shows on their screen.

My bank (HSBC) have cancelled the 'extra' payment and refunded the money into my account (as I need it tomorrow), but have advised that Barclaycard can still take the 'extra' payment if requested.

Sorry to ramble on but do I still need to ring Barclaycard tomorrow/Wed to make sure they don't try to get the 'extra'payment back (leaving me overdrawn and charged)?

Thanks in advance :)

I assume that only one of the payments is showing up on your HSBC statement?

If this is the case, then there is nothing to worry about, there's just a duplicate authorisation from the payment that was referred and most likely it will never be claimed.
  • I was paying on the phone automated system and was automatically put through to an advisor after an attempt to pay.

When I rang HSBC they confirmed that the amount had actually left my account twice. I did check with them and ask if one was just pending because of the referral, but they confirmed that Barclaycard had actually debited my bank account twice.

I think to be safe I'll ring Barclaycard in the morning (again) and advise them again what has happened and that one of the transactions has been cancelled by my bank. Think I'd rather waste a bit more of my phone bill rather than risk an unauthorised overdraft with my bank account.

    Thanks for the replies.
