  • Hi, I've just started using bookbub.com it sends you a list of free or deeply discounted books via email depending on your preference of platform and genre and also in most cases when the freebie/discount ends. Hope this is useful!

  • I always use freekindlebooks.co.uk to find my free ebooks.

They've made it extremely easy to find free books for the Kindle. I must have downloaded hundreds of free kindle books from this site over the past year and saved a small fortune - a great site, highly recommended!

Hope this helps all you book lovers.. :heart2::heart2::heart2::heart2:
  • I use a windows 8.1 laptop and windows 8.1 tablet and borrow e-books from Wiltshire library. I use the free Adobe Digital Editions app that can be downloaded and installed from the Windows store. I download my books rather than read online (which is difficult on a train in a tunnel!) so I haven't tried Overdrive.
I've now installed the Amazon Kindle software (free download) on both and that works fine so far, hence my looking for more free books.
  • Download the overdrive app and check if your local library lends ebooks. You need to join your local library and they will tell you how to access ebooks and give you a login and PIN number
At my local library you can borrow up to three ebooks for two weeks . After that they disappear avoiding overdue charges. You can renew books and also reserve books and youre sent an email when a book is availablel. You can download the overdrive app onto tablets (I've got a kindle fire) and phones, but not onto ereaders. Hope this helps.
  • It's great to see so much interest in reading, and I'm not averse to a bargain myself (and a library user) but please think of writers trying to make a living - apart from a few, most authors aren't celebs and don't make much from writing. Having said that, free or cheap books means they're being read, which is great! If you get a book for free or cheaply, one way you can help authors is to leave a review online after you've read it - that's a great help to the author and a nice way of saying thank you. :)

I'm new to this forum so forgive me if I am repeating previous info.
If you go to luzme.com and register you can find he cheapest site for a book. this saves going and checking each site seperately. It allows you to create a watch list, specify which sites to check, and receive emails when the book drops below your limit. Its not the slickest of sites and sometime doesn't find a price for no apparent reason but you can click through direct to the site once you are happy with the price.
So if you cn't find the book for free its a good way of finding the cheapest site

Bought Kobo glo HD about a year ago, mainly to take advantage of borrowing ebooks from the local library for free. Library catalogue is very well stocked with latest books and can borrow up to six books from two to three weeks. As per post 27 books disappear after borrowing period and no fines to pay.
Local libraries also offer audio books and most smartphones and tablets can be used with appropriate apps to listen to.

  • Hi all,

I work for Cardiff Libraries but this will be relevant to nearly EVERY local Library Service.

You already pay for this via taxes and I wish Martin and MSE would bang the drum for Libraries louder!

Regarding reading - you can obviously borrow books for free, including large print etc. Within Cardiff you can place books on hold and choose which library to collect. We also have a mobile route and a housebound service.

In addition you can download e-books and e-audio for free as well as magazines, comic books and LOADS of other e-resources.

We also have free events all the time, the tech event I run even has free pizza, beer and soft drinks as I've got sponsorship for it. Also lots of free stuff for kids - minecraft, storytimes, lego. If you don't use your local library, you are not a money saver!!!!

Take 10 minutes to look at their website and give them a follow on facebook and twitter to see what they are up to and fight for them too. Use them or lose them!

Help please. I have an old kindle with side buttons which I love.

But I cannot afford to buy the authors I want, so have joined the Overdrive for Suffolk libraries. I am reading ebooks on my laptop which is not too convenient, as I like to read in bed/and in car lunchtime. I prefer an ereader as I get eye strain, otherwise I'd have bought a Kindle Fire.

I wondered about getting a Kobo, but they are over £100.

Can I convert these e library books via Calibre to use on my old kindle? Is it fairly easy? Thanks for any tips.

You would need software to remove DRM which would cost about £20 and anyway this is illegal I think, however I suggest you might buy an ereader that reads epub library books such as a Kobo, you can get second hand ones of these for less than £20 on ebay. You could still use your kindle keyboard for free books from amazon, offers come up regularly.
