I've had a kindle for four years now and hardly paid for a book except for the early years, I now use eReader1 UK which is a page on Facebook. Yes you have to watch what you buy as there are forty free listed books every day but you sometimes have to be quick as they soon go up in price. I have over three hundred books from this link, yes some maybe not what you want but you just delete them and you haven't lost anything.0

Allowing you to borrowdigital books and audio books from your library if they are signed up using thelog in that you would use on the library computers usually your library cardnumber and a pin the library has given you. I means you can borrow up to fivebooks/audio book at a time for up to 21 days and they will return automaticallyat the end of the loan period no late fees. There is also a selection of booksmostly classics that you can borrow indefinitely. I have has this app on myiphone since march 2012 and i have devoured 57 books for free includingfiction, fact, biography, reference books.
Great tip, I totally agree
I have overdrive on my tablet. I found this combined with the search function in calibre give you everything you can possibly want (on calibre sites like amazon and gutemberg are already set up and can be searched simultaneously, most I didn't know they existed).
another big plus, the overdrive app also has a dictionary and wikipedia, while for example Kobo don't allow access to the dictionary if you are reading a free ebook (mean so and so...).0 -
I downloaded loads of free epub books (other formats also available) from project gutenberg (use the following: wget -w 2 -m -H http://www.gutenberg.org/robot/harvest?filetypes[]=epub.noimages&langs[]=en )
More info here about downloading all files in one go (will take a while though)(New) AIM: MF within 5 years or less

Thanks Querty001 for the above code wget ...
I have tried this under Linux in a terminal window and it works a treat - but how can I get the files/folders generated to be correctly named with the name of the book, please?

the names of the books should automatically come up when you put the ebooks into your ereader, no need to change/create names
1- so after downloading to my computer, I used Calibre to add the books to my library
2- all the correct names and folders were automatically created
3- then I just put the ebooks I wanted to read onto my ereader
I couldn't get wget (or alternatives) to work in windows, so I just downloaded a windows Linux installer (wubi, or any linux LiveCD, you don't even need to install a LiveCD) and used the wget command as shown above to download all ebooks
a number of different languages are available not just ebooks in English
and a number of different formats, not just epub
you can choose to download ebooks individually if you want (point and click, no commands needed)
Happy free reading(New) AIM: MF within 5 years or less

yes, I downloaded all the available epub books that I wanted (in English, with no images as image files are much larger in size (epub.noimages&langs[]=en)), all in one go
and then added to Calibre all in one go
and yes it took a long time I can't remember how long, a day or so, but once done it's done(New) AIM: MF within 5 years or less

My son has just been bought a Kobo and I wondered if any one has advice about where to find free children's ebooks please.
Thanks in advance0 -
This might be of interest if you're thinking of a holiday in The Gambia - schools welcome story tellers and these might give you an idea of the local way of life and teaching methods ... I paid 77p for mine!0
