Travel Insurance - Possibility of Extension of Holiday

Hi
I am in the US and have travel insurance for my 6 week stay - 1 December until 12 January. However, I have a chance to extend my stay for another 4 weeks but my travel insurance will run out. I have spoken to my travel insurance company about extending my policy to cover the extra 4 weeks but they have referred it to their underwriter. I can't see this as a problem really - I've been insured by them for two long stays and never claimed.
However, if they refuse to extend my policy what are my options? Most insurance companies say that the insurance needs it be taken out before you have left the country. I saw a post about someone who wanted to take a policy out for their son who was part way through a backpacking trip but I think my circumstances are slightly different. I'm a 50 year old woman who is staying in one place - not a 20 year old travelling around the country!

¿Alguien ha visto a mi nave espacial?
Biting is excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner.

You can use online based companies such as world nomads or worldwideinsure. More expensive than extending a current policy, but at least you would have cover. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
