I have a friend who is married to a woman in the USA. They were married over 20 years ago and have two children. The youngest one is 15. He is British and went out to the USA and got married. He then lived there and worked there for over 20 years. She is American. He has been deported from the USA. He is not allowed to go back. There is no reason why she could not come to the UK i.e. for a holiday.
He has a job. I don't know how much he earns but he seems to think the relavant figure is £18,000 p.a. and it is less than this. He lives in a house with his father with plenty of room for wife and children. His father would like the wife and children to come to live with them.
He has capital, but a relatively low income, and he is convinced that she would not be able to come and live here.
Does anyone know anything about this that may assist?

Hi Pee,
This link may help http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/partners-families/citizens-settled/
I know that the immigration rules changed recently in relation to spouse visas. There was no minimum income requirement before 9/7/2012. From this date his income would have to be in excess of £18,600 in order to meet the financial requirements under the immigration rules. I think the financial requirement may be higher if children require visas as well. The link above should provide you with sufficient info though
Hope it helps
All hail to the sale!!!!!!

Does he want her to come over here? She could come for a holiday, but hasn't. Maybe the marriage ended, and he hasn't admitted this, perhaps even to himself ...He has capital, but a relatively low income, and he is convinced that she would not be able to come and live here.

Maybe.
Maybe the OP meant 'there's no reason why she shouldn't come for a holiday [nudge, nudge, wink, wink]', in an immigration sense.
If so, then the couple has to sort out the UK immigration aspects properly.
If they each get deported from the other's country, it will be very hard for them to live together, except in a third country.0 -
Why did he get deported?0
