Primary/Secondary Master/Salve IDE set-up

Options
Building a PC up. Got a query, does the primary/secondary master and slave set ups for IDE drives from the motherboard.

Does the Primary Slave get a greater priority than the secondary master (or is it the same or vice versa)?

Just so I know which way to set up my drives for the greatest speed/priority. I know it won't make much of a difference that I'd notice it, but obviously it must have a best way of doing it, which I might as well follow.

Thanks for any help.

It makes very little practical difference except when transferring data from one drive to another, ie. copying a CD/DVD or writing from HDD to CD and visa versa. You will get the best performance by putting the your main HDD on one bus(IDE 0) and your CD Writer on the other(IDE 1). If you have any other drives, you just need to think about what your most frequent use is going to be.

Make sure the Jumpers are set correctly.

I still use the old fashoined way OS on master and data on slave using the jumper.

If you use 80 wire cables you can just select CSL and it should all just sort its self out.
