Replacing a Back Boiler

We've currently got a Baxi 'back boiler' (behind the fireplace in the lounge). Can anyone advise on

a) is it simple to replace with something else / would the gas fire itself also need replacing ?

b) should we have the rads changed at the same time as the boiler ? - it's currently a single pipe system

c) costs of any of above / is it worth doing ?

You are correct but, to be fair, the answers he got weren't all that helpful because the jobspec was rather open ended - as it is now and not that many people answered. OP - clearly you've managed for the past two years since you last asked. What's changed?

as i wasn't around then & because i like seeing my name on the home page.

A) yes you can get a new back boiler but you can only use a electric fire front with them not a gas one.

a single pipe system should be upgraded to two pipe system, while alot of boilers will work on a single pipe it's not good practice & i wouldn't leave it like that. Changing rads is your choice it depends on their condition but if they aren't convectors ie with fins they aren't going to be very efficient.

C) Cost is anyones guess you need some quotes then you can decide if it's worth it.

Many thanks ! Nothing really, just the boiler is that much older etc. I guess I was wondering whether a 'modern' back boiler being fitted is a possibility, or does it need to be pulled out and everything changing ?

I guess this is the crux. It sounds like replacing the back boiler itself is possible, but is there any real benefit without the rads being changed and a 2-pipe system being installed ?

Has the boiler broken? You could replace with a high efficiency model but you won't save as much as you think.

What is your current annual gas usage?
