Online Conveyancing

As the title suggests, i'm in the process of sorting out the conveyancing for house purchase.
The house will be a 2nd house for us, and is a straight forward purchase which is why in this case i'm considering going for a cheap online firm.
Basically, my partners Dad has £85,000 left on a property and it has been valued at £160,000. We have therefore agreed to transfer the property to us at the remaining mortgage value.
Does anyone have any experiences with these online conveyancing firms?
I've tried a quick quote from propertytransaction.co.uk and it came out at about £250. Others are as low as £150 but i'd expect a local one to be more in the region of £750. (based on the last house purchase I made).
I'm only considering these now due to the situation as described but i've not heard much about these firms and you don't always know what online information is legit
Some information points to firms such as the one above being good and I have only found 1 negative review after a quick search.

Hi Blitzwing I used an e conveyancer for the sale and purchase of my home last year. I worked through this company http://www1.utdgroup.com/legal/ ( www.econveyancer.com ). It was recommended to me by a neighbour. I was then 'assigned' a compnay of conveyancers in Wales. The conveyancer I had was excellent very speedy replies to emails and even contected EA after 5pm in the evenings when she wanted to hurry things along. It was other bricks and mortar solicitors who held things up!
There were 2 mistakes ( both easily picked up by us when we read the paperwork, i think just due to computerisation and check boxes) in total from her one, a mistake in the paperwork which was rectified straight away and one in the final bill ( a small deposit we had paid was missed off) which again was rectified. We also had online access to updates on the sale/purchase although these were a little slow to be updated at times. When she was away from the office there was always someone in the office who had been assigned to my case and could deal with any queries I had.
I must add though that I think she was a conveyancer and not a solicitor although I don't have any proof of this just a feeling I had. I don't know if all the conveyancers used would have been as good or whether we were just 'lucky'.
Do you mean that you are buying the house from you partner's dad for £85000 or will it become more complicated than that? If it isn't straight forward then I suggest you double check the company you choose are used to handling such situations.0 -
Thanks for the reply.
I do most things online but never looked at online conveyancing before until now.
But I certainly don't rate local firms either as during my first house purchase they tried to get more money out of me due to a change in the legal procedures enforced which raised their cost and I had to write an official letter stating that in fact this didn't come into effect until 2 days after the completion date of our case.
They will try anything on.
Her Dad is paying £850pm but has moved out into his own place. Her Mam remains but couldn't afford the payment.
So basically there is £85,000 left on the mortgage and all we are doing is getting our names put against that £85,000 and taking out a 2nd mortgage for it. Our mortgage on it is £380.
Despite it being just a transfer they do count it as a normal purchase/sale but it's a very straight forward transaction.
The bank approved us for it straight away and said it won't take long to sort out as the best rate for us was with the same bank her Dad has the mortgage with.
1 local firm quoted: £765
Online was £491
I'll see what other online quotes I can get and try the link you posted0
