IVA & Carers Allowance
Hi all
Having recently been awarded carers allowance, i asked my friend who also gets it & has finished her IVA in the last 6 months, whether i had to inform the IVA company.
She told me that i was supposed to but that she never had! she said that IVA companies have no way of checked whether you get CA & therefore i may aswell keep quiet & keep the money. She said that they'll never find out unless they have bank statements off you & hers never did.
Apart from the moral implications- surely thats not right? Do insolvency pract REALLY not check stuff like that?
Hope that makes sense

Some IPs ask for bank statements at the annual review (But not all)
My personal opinion is that honesty is the best policy0 -

Hi,
I agree with anondebtadvisor. Knowingly witholding a change in your financial circumstances could cause your IVA to fail or even lead to fraud charges etc. if ever your IP found out.
But you should not have cause for concern over telling your IP:
Don't know too much about benefits, but I believe CA is provided to cover care costs. Therefore, if your IP wants to take some/all of this extra 'income', I assume you could off-set their demand by demonstrating associated corresponding expenses if so required. Keep notes of car mileage/receipts for this purpose just in case your IP gets awkward about it (unlikely I would have thought).0
