My Dell M990 crt monitor has stopped working.

Had a power cut & monitor hasn't come back to life, completely blank, no noise from any power-up, nothing.

Checked electrical supply & fuse, they are ok.

Any ideas, could there be an internal fuse ?

There should be a F2mA 250V fuse internally, that has probably popped. The (F) means Fast blow in case of power cuts and the like. Sometimes the fuse is soldered in, or in it's own carrier, and remember IF you attenpt to replace it, you are working on the HOT side of the Power Supply, that means that, due to the power issue, if you touch that fuse, to remove it, you are likely to make a short to earth, with 600V DC. I've done it, and been lucky enough to live.

I say keep the CRT's alive!!! - if it isn't what I said, then possibly a rectifier diode has gone o/c LCD/Plasma Suck! look at the operating hours!

I'll have a look at this.

It's strange. the monitor would have been asleep & not displaying anything when power cut happened, although still powered with power switch on.

Wouldn't have thought it was drawing much current to blow anything.

But I guess that's why you have surge protectors for electrical equipment.

I have swopped to a very old spare monitor.
    Using Windows XP.

When I boot in Normal Mode, the screen display is all over the place, multiple images moving on the screen.

I think this spare monitor & the display setting set in Normal Mode is not compatible with it.

If I boot in Safe Mode, it displays ok, I think it's 640x480 resolution.

In Normal Mode, I can't see the words/icons/menus well enough to select & can't change display setting to work with my spare old monitor.

I know when changing Display Settings before on XP, it shows preview display for say 10 seconds & you can confirm change or return to original setting.

Obviously I can't do this as Spare Monitor is not set to correct settings for the Normal boot up.

Any ideas & suggestions on how to do this, to get spare monitor displaying ok in Normal Mode ?
