Dear MSEs
My Dad recetly told me he wants to buy an iPad for his wife. He's 83 and barely tech literate, he struggles even with the mobile phone. It turns out that what they want is to be able to surf the web and use a sat nav. He has a laptop at home for Word, Excel etc. They have broadbad at home. They don't need it for anything else, no films, no musc, no apps, no photos (he doesn't know how to upload from his digital camera). A smartphone would be too small and fiddly.
What basic tablet (and data package?) would you reccommend?
Many thanks, I'm really worried that he is buying things that he doesn't need and I know from experience that many shop assistants see him coming and will sell him the most expensive thing they can.

All I have used is an iPad and a Amazon Kindle Fire.
I think an iPad would be too expensive for what he would use it for.
I think the Kindle could be worthwhile especially if he is into reading as well.:j

Look at the cheaper tablet options at somewhere like Ebuyer? If they have broadband at home, and don't need the tablet to work outside the home, then they won't need a "data" package - wifi will do. (Their broadband will almost certainly have wifi enabled already).0

Probably best to look for the larger screened tablets, maybe the Nexus 10 when its more available, same price as an ipad mini but with a 10 inch screen. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
