What's the most useful thing I can do with a broken printer?

Options
I've got a nearly 8 year old Canon PIXMA printer which recently broke down (burning smell and stopped printing).

I've replaced it with a new one and am now trying to figure out the most useful way to discard of it.

Is there anything I can do other than throw it away? For example, can I donate it somewhere where they can fix it and use it for some purpose?

It seems rather a shame to just throw it away.

Thanks
Zaky

Put it on Freecycle, just say not working.

I was sure your thread title meant you were going to be posting this video of an ex-printer:

I would be surprised if there was anyone who would have a use for your printer as usually parts can be surprisingly expensive compared to the cost of a new printer and with it being that old its unlikely to be usable for spares.

My local recycling centre has a section where items such as yours can be left in a large container and they are used to train people into how things work, how they come apart etc for repairs. They check what is going in to ensure it's suitable and store it correctly so that it doesn't get damaged.

Inkjets are hardly ever economically repairable. Selling them for parts is a waste of space unless someone very local wants it, as the delivery cost outweighs the value, and the (subsidised) cost new is so low.

Use it as a foot rest :rotfl:

Failing that, give it to one of those ink replacement centres such as cartridge world......they might be able to repair it or use its cartridge?

Offer it on Freegle, ensure that you describe it well and make it plain that it is faulty.

Someone else may have one and would be pleased to have another for parts to fix theirs.

You lose nothing offering it, if no one wants it then the recycling center ahoy...
