I have just been informed by a solicitor on behalf of northern rock that I owe £31700 from an outstanding mortgage debt that i didnt know existed!

I split from my ex husband 4 years ago, and this debt is 5 years old, I never knew about it and although it looks like my signature on the forms, my ex husband has fraudulantly signed on my behalf before.
Why wasnt this paid off when the house was sold in 2003? the equity was paid out /shared between me and him after northern rock informed me that i had signed all the equity over to my ex husband? when they faxed me the forms through, it wasnt my signature. i rightfully had my share then.
Why has it taken 5 years for them to send me this bill? Also my ex cant be traced by northern rock, so i get the debt is that right?

  • Can anyone help me please. My account has been handed over to this debt collecting agency (who seem most unpleasant according to post listed previously). I have tried in vein to sort out the problem with the bank but rather than take up any of my suggestiions to clear the debt, have opted to hand this onto their credit agency to sort out. I have made all kinds of offers but each have been declined by the bank. What I'd be really grateful to learn is does anyone know what percentage of the debt does a credit agency 'buy' the debt? This information will be so valuable to know when I start haggling with Wescot.

Can you add what you have received from Wescot and what the debt was for?

  • Brilliant articles and videos I really wish that there had been something like this when we first realised we had a debt problem. Even though this information wasn't available then, thanks to this site we are now debt free. This infomation would have made it a lot less scary. Well done Martin :T :T

Remind me why CCCS and CAP are featured in the article but Payplan isn't.
  • I wonder how come some banks are still doing their businesses after having some major complaints from their clients. A friend of mine asked for a ten year loan and got a mortgage on his house. He also had a credit card with the same bank but he never used it. A small technicality almost made him loose his house. The bank wanted to take his house for having an unpaid tax for his card. Some annual account maintaining tax.
