fitted wardrobe

hi

looking to get fitted wardrobe in a bedroom on one side of the chimney breast. depth is quite low (around 35 cm) and not too keen to have something sticking out to get in the way to walk around the room.

so looking at fitted wardrobe, very much liked the idea of ikea PAX wardrobe but biggest problem is that they only come in width of 150cm while we only have 140 cm.

any recommendations re where to buy within reasonable price. B&Q seem too expensive based on a relative's experience and everyone else wants to send designers around to house to try & force a sell!

Get some quotes from independent people rather than big companies.

Do you mean someone like carpenter or local wardrobe company. Wouldn't really know how to find a reliable local wardrobe company to be honest.
  • The PAX wardrobes also come in 50cm and 1m widths (hinged doors) and 75cm (sliding doors).

I got the same problem - my width is 124cm and foudn the PAx is either 100 or 150. You can't get specific sizing. :(

The cheapest way to get custom sized wardrobes is to contact a cabinet maker and ‘pretend’ to be a trade customer.
To find a cabinet maker I would search yell for ‘cabinet manufactures’ or ‘kitchen manufactures’ (any kitchen manufacturer will be able to make wardrobes but they generally don’t advertise it because they don’t want the hassle of members of the public trying to buy one or two cabinets).
To sound like a trade customer you will need to know what you want. For example ask for: A wardrobe at 1400mm wide by 350mm deep with two hanging rails and one shelf above the top hanging rail. You will also need to confirm the height and colour. Wardrobes are made out of 18mm chipboard and will be available in lots of plain colours and woodgrain effects. They should however all be roughly the same price.

by pretending to be a trade and doing a b2b transaction, you lose the rights you have as a consumer, opening yourself upto the legislation that covers b2b transactions.
