Old iPod, new Laptop

Hi

I have an old ipod 30g and am trying to backup and sync with my new laptop. I have set up a dedicated user account and ipod is recognised, along with all music/videos. It is a pre-app model. BUT - on Summary page there is no backup option. Sync option obviously wants to wipe the ipod.

Help please? Many thanks.

I don't have a solution for you but I know a workaround. Copy the itunes media library from your old computer and paste it in your new computer. Then sync your iPod with your new laptop. This will result in your music being wiped from the iPod but then you can easily add it back.

Not sure what's going to happen to the playlists (if you made any)

Just did this on my laptop, but it was with an iPhone.

First I copied all files in the iTunes folder and transferred them to my external HDD.
On my laptop i then plugged in my iphone, i clicked the iphone device on the left side panel in itunes and clicked backup, once finished, I closed iTunes.
I then copied the itunes folders/files from my external HDD to mug laptop to the same location folder and replacing the the items currently there.
I then opened iTunes and everything was back to normal, all apps, music, videos, playlists, etc.

I was then able to sync my iPhone with no problem
