PaymentShield/RSA rubbish

First post on here..please be gentle! sorry its long..

I have been with RSA for 4 years paying my monthly contents insurance without any problems, until recently when I have had to claim!

A water tank belonging to Red Kite leaked into my lounge soaking my sofa and carpet. I logged this with RSA the following day and 2.5 months later they still havent replaced my carpet or sofa.

After 5 weeks of letting my items fester in water, RenewCavalier came out to clean them. After much arguing, RSA agreed to replace my carpet, but not underlay, now they agreed to replace half of the underlay (damaged). Words from Crawford Loss Adjuster "we can agree to replace your carpet because it is not expensive for us to do so". EXCUSE ME! So insurers dont do something because it is the right thing, but because it is CHEAP to do so? My excess is £200 and carpet replacement apparently the same amount.

Anyway, So I went to the first of their preferred suppliers - they hadnt received the insurance paperwork! So I went to their other preferred suppliers who had the paperwork and was told the insurers have not allowed for underlay. What the hell!! I was told one thing on the phone by RSA and CarpetRenew and another by the supplier. And the carpet that CarpetRenew seem to think I have is not even stocked in my colour at the suppliers!!!

I have aired concerns that I dont feel comfortable with the sofa as water leaked through the sofa cushions, frame and out the wooden base to soak half the lounge carpet and then sat there for 5 weeks..but they keep insisting its clean and as good as new. Now they will send a second company out to inspect it. To look at it of course it looks clean, because the fabric and cushions soaked all the water over 5 weeks and dried out – groace. The only dry bit of the sofa was a small corner. 75% was drenched.

The worst thing is that its a non-fault claim, yet I am still battling with my insurers. We have spent xmas away from home, whilst the ceiling was being plastered. Eventually after 2.5 months I had enough, I phoned RSA and complained about the length of time and unsatisfactory service. Got a letter to say they are looking into the complaint and yet another explanation of all the job descriptions of the people involved in the case.

Oh and in-between all this, my claim was also "accidentally" cancelled by Crawfords and the paperwork "chucked" in the bin. So they had to restart. No-one told ME this, until I phoned and chased.

Paymentshield, RSA, Crawfords, RenewCavalier: sort out your customer service and quit being so pedantic. So many people claim falsely, but stop making life difficult for those who have genuine cases. Communicate with members within your team and keep your customers updated.

So all in all very disappointed. Really annoyed and more than that upset. SIGH. I am sure that following this claim, it will only take them 24 hours to increase my monthly payments!!!!!!!! :wall:

Sorry to hear your problems, just who are RSA and Red Kite?
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • PaymentShield policies are underwritten by RSA (Royal Sun Alliance). Having read reviews paymentshield have only 1/5 rating..at least I am not the only one having a difficult time with them. My buildings insurance is with RK.
