I think some unavailability depends on what time you do your shopping. I shop at 8pm to get the yellow stickers, but then I find that some of my Value items are not there, they have sold out during the day. Unless a line has been discontinued altogether it may well appear again at some point in the future. When I do see what I need I buy several so that I don't run out.

I wanted porridge oats, there wasn't any, so I called in and picked them up as I was passing a few days later. I did not have to buy the next brand up, or the more expensive stuff, I chose to wait untill I could buy what I wanted. Nobody has to buy anything they don't want.

Whils I agree that I don't HAVE to buy the next brand up, I can't go out a few days later as I don't drive and my nearest supermarket is at least a 20 minute ride on my bike away, with my 4 year old in the trailer, so not something I do for the sake of it! It just annoys me that each week when I'm doing my online shop that yet another thing that I would have got from the value range is 'unavailable' and remains so each week. Or that the prices are going up by 10p a time on quite a few things, value and branded. I've considerably cut my shopping down to needs rather than wants and am still fighting to keep to budget!

My oh laughs at me but I really do notice when the vaule items go up in price and it might only be by 10p but % wise that's a massive increase, I remember the 4p curry sauce everywhere started doin in Mr. M`s it has been gradually going up in price and its almost 50p now! I haven't noticed much difference in stock of the value items near to me.

Yes, I noticed this in our local Mr T only yesterday. Loads of empty spaces on the shelves where the value stuff should have been. And the value plain flour space was full of value SR flour - they'd obviously expanded the SR flour to make the shelf look full.

I try not to wait til I'm desperate for something before buying it, so that if the specific one I want isn't in stock, it goes on a new list for Mr LW to get during his lunch break in Mr M's, near where he works.

Yes I have noticed it too. And when I went on line the other day I was surprised to see that there were no 3 for £10 meat deals. There were also quite a lot of things not available both in the value and tesco own brand ranges.

Is it something to do with supply over Christmas or as someone else said is it just that they fill the store with "Christmas stuff". I am worried about ever increasing prices so I hope things go back to normal soon.

I live 25 miles from Tesco or Asda and other shops locally are far too expensive. I also believe that the more often I shop the more I spend so I try to just shop twice a month.

I read last year they are changing and rebranding value items, I wonder if that's related although they announced it last spring http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/apr/04/tesco-rebrands-value-range

Watch out for some value items being re-labelled or 'debranded' and ending up in Home Bargains, B&M and Approved Foods.

I was absolutely amazed when I picked up value pitta bread yesterday - they had doubled in price to 40p. Now I know that's still not hugely expensive and that wheat prices have gone up but to double in price virtually overnight seems a tad extreme!
  • Wow that is a price increase! I find the value items fluctuate in price from week to week so I never know when to buy, you kind of take a gamble as to whether the prices will go down further or not. I loved the value hula hoops they used to do in Tesco but they have vanished and not been seen for a few months. I know a few others that are missing them too! I also used to love the Tesco value Curry Sauce but now they have changed the recipe and they now contain milk so that's out the window for me now as I'm lactose intolerant. I wish they could just leave the products at one price and one recipe!
