Hi I want to take my ipod abroad with me and wonder what is the best and easiest to pack way for charging it while I am away please? Have seen a USB plug socket but wondered if anyone had any other solutions. And also if I get one of these do they need to be an "Apple" one only my husband has a Samsung one for his tablet, would it do same job?

If your not taking a laptop, then the best way is to either hope the hotel your staying in has an iPod dock in a clock/radio, or to take a usb charger which plugs into the wall socket0

IF you have a generic USB socket, ie there is the wall plug, and you plug in cables to it) then it should work. If not most usb chargers should do the job with the ipod cable. You could try with the samsung one as long as you can change the lead.
If you are considering buying one, I'd recommend this:

Anything that charges with a USB cable of any description should work with it, and gives an additional plug. I actually use at home cus it makes 3 chargers into one effectively, and it charges my ipad2/ipad mini, which some of the other usb plugs I have (outside the apple ones) don't, plus it is surge protected so a little peace of mind.
Coupled with an travel adaptor it's ok, but be warned, the little spots on the front at the top light up, and I find it annoying at night, so have electrical taped over mine. Used it in Germany recently with a European travel adaptor and it worked a treat. Charged my phone, ipad, and let me run the travel kettle too.
It isn't the most compact however. If space is a premium, and you have a charger from the ipod (unlikely) try phone with its own lead with that, and just take the one that works for both, and is more compact.0 -
Take your USB lead and buy a mains USB adaptor when you get there.
Or get this

Just use the Samsung USB charger, it gives out 2Amp. Which is plenty for the ipod.
So just take the samsung usb charger, both sets of usb cable and a travel adapter for whatever country you go to.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0
