Hi All,
I have a Acer Aspire 5551 laptop and recently the battery isn't always charging when the mains is plugged in.
If you unplug from the laptop and plug back in multiple times eventually it will start charging, but then if the cable is moved slightly it stops charging and you have to start wiggling it around until it realises its plugged in.
It seems like a hardware fault does anybody if its likely to be the cable that'll need replacing or if its the pin in the laptop thats at fault?
Please let me know if you need any more info about the laptop.
Thanks

9 times out of 10 is is a fault with the laptop itself. However you might want to try replacing the charger as they are pretty cheap.
You can get one on eBay for £5.19

If it turns out to be the laptop then you might be best off replacing the whole machine as the parts and labour charge of a repair would probably be in excess of £100 but no harm in asking a local repair shop for their opinion.0 -
assuming there is no physical damage to the lead/connector
boot it without battery in, go to bios screen, then wiggle the power supply, if it switches off, then it's likely a power jack problem

Test the DC output from the charger with a multimeter. If it's OK, then it'll be the power jack coming adrift from the motherboard. It needs to be replaced and resoldered.
About the most common laptop repair around, and can cost anything from £60 to £120 depending on area and supplier.
The part costs a few pence, the cost is the stripping down and reassembling. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
My Acer does this too - only ever when switched off though I don't know whether this is the case with your's? I found that if I switch the laptop on the light comes on straight away (signifying it is charging) I then switch it off again straight away before Windows boots. This has worked 100% of the time for me.0
