Swimming against the tide

Trying so hard to come off JSA and benefits. Got part time job less than 16 hours. The fiver JSA allowance equals travel expenses. Did extra hours Christmas week because soo hoping for regular more hours. Hubby similar situation. Did everything above board. Advised job centre and housing benefit. Result: poll tax bill doubled. And today received letter we have been overpaid benefit of ten pound odd for last week . We were struggling before, but now...!!? I am feeling pretty low aright now and feel the need for somebody out there to tell me to keep my chin up and it will all be worth it. I keep telling myself to look at the bigger picture but my voice is turning into a whisper. :(

Do you mean council tax, and what was it doubled from?
  • I stopped reading when you said "poll tax".

Your type of situation will be much improved under UC, you'll be able to earn at least £110 a month before your UC (replaces JSA & HB) is affected, and after that you get to keep 35%.

When I say poll tax I mean council tax. I think I am from another age group to yourself. Also if I use the word dole I mean job seeker allowance.

Payments to Bury MBC were £38 a month and now are £80. I think I am just feeling a little bit sorry for myself because I hear of so many people settling on benefits and I truly am trying to not be one of them.
