She promised to ring me back within 30 minutes. 10 minutes later she rang back to confirm that they had got it wrong and she emailed a letter of indemnity for the police to confirm that the policy was in effect at the time. Now that's what I call service.
    Great news.

Bet your son never overlooks his MOT ever again.
  • Thanks dacouch, I was considering it but now I'll definitely send a letter of thanks.
True rs65 and if he does he's on his own!!!
Proving to be a bit of an effort to get the penalty nullified rather than pleading NG. Will report back.

Don't send the letter until it's all sorted out to your satisfaction and you've received any compensation (Should this be due).

Try speaking to an Inspector at the police station or someone at their HQ.

AS Spacey mentioned, the police officer asking about whether the MOT invalidates the Insurance may be over stepping the mark so the police may have had a hand in causing the problem.

This case may end up being similar to your case if the police procrastinate over the matter if you produce your (Relevant) Certificate of Insurance and the Letter of Indemnity from your Insurer. Don't be afraid to mention it but I recommend you remain polite but firm when dealing with the police.

  • I wrote a letter to the traffic PC involved (who was at all times helpful and sympathetic), with copies of the insurance cert and the letter of indemnity. Within hours he replied by email that the FPN was cancelled. Needless to say his reply has been printed out and filed.
