The cheap GU10s are rubbish. I recently bought some philips 35w at a good price from screwfix. Wickes also have themFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). The AC-DC converter in a GU10 LED bulb is in a pretty hostile environment - hot (which makes the lifetime of the electronics even more of a problem) and switching high voltages (e.g. the Philips chips with an integrated MOSFET are rated at 600V as they are driven direct from a bridge rectifier across the 230V mains).
So good quality electronics, designed well by the likes of Philips, Osram etc will last, but Chinese cheap stuff will not. You get what you pay for...For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
Oh yes,and dangerous too ! The last cheapo one that blew was in a kitchen light fitting. It suddenly went bang and the glass envelope parted company from the connector and dropped vertically narrowly missing a close encounter with my partners decolletage !VinceSamios wrote: »The cheap LED GU10's can't really by THAT crap can they? Even a Chinese no-name company isn't going to produce a product which doesn't last past the shop which sells it?
The base remained in the fitting and had to be extracted with the power off and a pair of pliers.
The phillips 35w version is reliable saves energy and with little noticeable reduction in light. I think you also get a good guarantee with them from phillips.?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry).
