Gaming capture...question or two

Options
Hi all. My son wants a gaming capture device for his X-Box, we are looking at the HD PVR2 system. It states that he needs 2ghz processor, his laptop has the Pentium M 1.73ghz processor, will this be good enough?

The home page for the gadget states that it will run on Windows XP (service pack 3) which he has on the laptop, but lots of places that sell it state that it should be Windows 7 or later. We don't want to spend money on a device that doesn't work but we also don't want to have to upgrade the laptop unless we absolutely have to. We also looked at the Elgato device but again, it needs Windows 7.

Any advice gratefully received!

Stating clock speed as a requirement is problematic as it's not an overall indicator of processor performance, it depends very much on the processor how fast it will be at a certain speed. I'd be dubious whether the P-m is fast enough, it depends how much work the device is doing in its own hardware but bearing in mind the Pentium-m is an old single core processor I'd expect issues capturing and also if you need to do any video conversion work it's likely to take a while.
