Haven Reighton Sands, Yorkshire

Am thinking about taking our 8 year olds to this Havens site this August. Have been to Primrose Valley up the road last year and previous we always went Dorset/Devon.
Anyone been to Reighton Sands - any feedback - how far is the walk to the beach from the site?
Havens is generally the same from park to park with slightly differing facilities but just wanted people's feedback form this site before we confirm a booking. We would be staying in a caravan in the ceadarwoods part of the park.
Thanks and can't believe I am hunting for a holiday already - we usually leave it alot later than this. :rotfl:

Hi, we have stayed at Reighton Sands a few times, on cheapie camping deals. It is much much smaller than Primrose Valley and the facilities are a lot more limited. The pool is just a standard oblong pool. I have just had a look on the website and I see they have added a lazy river outside - fine if its hot and sunny but the pool inside will get very cramped if its cold and wet.
The site used to be fairly run down but they have spent a fair bit of money on it and smartened up the restaurant and bar area which is a lot better. If you read reviews saying it is tatty I am sure these will be before the improvements.
The best thing is the location - right on the cliff top next to a fantastic beach which goes on for miles. It isnt far to the beach but its a very steep hill. They do run a tractor and trailer with seats so you can get a free lift up the hill which is very welcome.
For me it would be just to small to entertain the kids for a whole week, unless its hot enough for the beach every day but for a short break it would be fine. Of course there is plenty to do in the area but it depends on how much you want to be on site.
Have you looked at Blue Dolphin? We like it there too. If you have any questions about either site or the area I will try to help as we live locally!0 -
Hi Yorkshirelass, thanks for your reply. We have looked at Blue Dolphin too and are torn between the two or to go back down south. The girls loved Yorkshire last and so did we - somewhere different with new things to explore! We don't generally stay on site every day and use it as a base. We generally use the pool and evening entertainment complex. Pending weather whether or not we go off site or stay on site and pool/park/beach/soft play etc. The girls want to go back to Flamingoland as they want to go back on the upside down rollercoaster and upside down pirate ship!0

Well I am biased but there is loads to do on the Yorkshire Coast and Flamingoland isnt cheap but is a great day out! Dont forget that Blue Dolphin has no beach access though, although its only a short drive to Filey.
I think deciding and planning is so exciting! Hope you have a great holiday whatever you decide.0 -
we went to blue dolphin last year and have just booked to go primrose valley this time. hoping pool and facilities are betterHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Having stayed at all 3 Haven Sites, my preference would be Primrose Valley. It is the largest of the sites and has better facilities for families.
The pool at Blue Dolphin is shallow and isn't very large during peak times and has no beach access. It caters more for touring and camping. These facilities are excellent.
Are you wanting North Yorkshire? Have you had a look at Thorpe Park? I know technically it's in Lincolnshire but its basically on the border of Yorkshire in Cleethorpes. next door is a theme park - Fantasy Island, hot house butterfly house, cinema, bowling alley as well as miles of sandy beach and paddling pool, little steam train. Grimsby, Skegness and Mablethorpe are all within a few hours drive.0 -
Hi my inlaws have a caravan at Reighton sands, we used to go every weekend and for weeks in the hols but to honest with you the bar is very expensive, the pool is crap the lazy river is only open for 2 hours a day and to top it all the tractor has stopped running. It is still very run down I think they were redoing the big entertainment room this year but I much prefer to pay to go to primrose or blue dolphin even though I can go there for free. It's okay just for me and dh but not the kids there is nothing for them to do. Hope you have a happy holiday xI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0

Thanks for your comments. We have booked already through a private owner to Reighton Sands. I am a little worried now having read Jem's comments suggesting the site is not good.
Ah well, nothing we can do about it now. We went to Primrose Valley last year and the site is huge but does have 2 fun pools and 2 entertainment rooms. The path to the beach is a bit of a treck but lovely once you get down to the beach. Bridlington we found to be a lovely beach, great for the kids to play in the sand and sea. Enjoy!0 -
We love hafen y mor and berwick. If you want to go somewhere new.0

Hi, we go to reighton all the time.
I have to say it is not as big as primrose valley but the facilities are endless if you have a big pocket of money
They have archery, shooting, fitness for kids, kids clubs every day (free), great entertainment, new lazy river (open about 6 hours a day, general swim) and absolutely loads more.
There is direct access to the beach and only during the school holidays there is a tractor that takes you up and down the steep hill free. There is a childrens outdoor play area aswell as an indoor one however i have been told they have put a new one behind the lazy river where the old park was.
There has been so many changes in the years, reighton like to waste their money e.g. they built a great big laser quest battle area but then adter a few months they knocked it down... they had a huge slide in the pool but also got rid of that.... they used to have go-karts around the camp but kids were crashing into cars and one almost fell into a dangerous ravine next to the hill to get to the beach which has now been fenced off.
if any of you like history, there are lots of world war things around reighton, there are defence barriers on the beach and also them hiding huts around. at easter they do an easter egg hunt too.
if you bought privately you might want to ask for passes:eek:
