  • A CCG is for essential furniture as far as I know, why would they give out the grant when there is no home to put the stuff in?

If you mean a grant for a rent deposit then I believe that's a different thing and they only pay the deposit when you find somewhere to rent, get the contract and show how much deposit is needed, you would still have to find the first months rent in advance yourself.

AFAIR a CCG could be given for a deposit and a loan could do advance rent.

But whether a CCG was for household stuff or deposit, there has to be a "need" and until you have somewhere lined up that 'needs' such funds, there is no need.

Of course, should you find somewhere, the process may not be completed quickly enough and someone else may be able to step in before you.

Advance warning...assuming you get qualifying benefit your circumstances do point to likely CCG, but do not assume the social fund office is fully aware of your circumstances. A supporting letter from someone who knows is pretty essential.

my council in stratford can provide deposit and up to £300 of advanced rent, or the full advanced rent. (which is to be repaid to council.)

i didnt think CCG provided rent etc as its always payable back, a grant does not need repaying...?

@Wayne, I'm not seeing Deposit as an excluded item in the social fund guide for CCGs.

It says Housing costs but I don't think that includes deposits as they are not really costs of housing in the same way mortgage and rent payments are.

I am sure I recall advance rent being a formality for a loan where CCGs had been allowed as a deposit.

It's been a few years so it may have changed since my time.
