ESA question help please?

hello :)

i am currently in the very difficult process of filling in both mine and my partners ESA questionnaires both due the week after next (rubbish mental health team with no support to fill in the form at all, cannot face going to the CAB so I'm all alone on it :o).
On page 3 of the questionnaire it asks 'About your illnesses or disabilities', proceeding to tell me it will ask about how illness/disability affects me in day to day things later. It then asks me to write what the illness/disability is and how does it affect me?!

What am i supposed to put in this large box? I can't put everything that i am putting in the form because a) I would just be repeating myself and b)there isn't enough room. This reminds me of the 'any other information' pages at the end of the DLA form, but obviously i don't want to work to this as i need to get the esa form right first time, we both meet support group criteria but i doubt we will be awarded it.

Thanks in advance for any helpful information or just examples of what you put in your form for this particular question

  • my advise put everything, use extra paper, repeat yourself where needed. i have to fill these in for my adult children and i believe the more information the better your chances. the medical won't allow you to go into depth about why should be awarded ESA, this is your chance to "sell" you and your partners disabilities and how it effects every aspect of your life. if possible also give examples, especially day to day activites and things that would prevent you from working. eg. i can't drive but going on bus gives me panic attacks i just shake and cry and fight for breathe and can't do it therefore i am isolated and unable to travel anywhere. this means i don't go out, i have my shopping delivered, and this is how i prefer it.(not saying this is true but an example)

    good luck

Hi moochie, this is what I put on page 3, hopefully will give you some ideas:

    Current diagnosis of xyz
This manifests the following symptoms a b c
    a:
    b:
    c:

I tailored a b c answers to include things such as "a means constant and severe pain", " b means difficulties carrying out everyday tasks" and "c leads to changing clothes/needing to wash".

I was very brief and concise because the time for details is later in the form.

I had help from DAB filling out my forms.

Hey, good luck with filling in the form, I'm a support worker (but not a benefits advisor so all my views are just in my experience of completing the forms and do not claim to be advice in any way, shape or form) so have done a lot of these with clients and they are horrible to do to be honest.

Have you ever seen a site called benefits and work? You can view a lot of the areas of the site for free but for a subscription of something like £20 they have amazing detailed guides for doing ESA and DLA applications.

I realise this might sound like spamming but it really isn't I have no affiliation with B&W other than we have a subscription with them in work in order to help us complete the applications with clients. There are other very good sites out there but, in my own personal (well, professional really) experience they have the most clear and concise guides for both claimants and professionals.

Also add in an idea (or if you have an exact date, even better) of when you were diagnosed and if your symptoms actually started a long time before that, when?
