SAT NAV question

Options
I am a complete novice as far as SAT NAV goes, but I may need to invest in one as I may need to start traveling for a new job.
I was looking on Ebay and found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251044768269?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648
It is not a known brand. Does anyone have any experience if this device shows good value?

I would be wary of buying this. Software could be slow or updating could be tricky?

Go for well known makes Garmin or Tom Tom

I have used Garmin for years and found it the best

A friend of mine bought a cheap no-name, waste of money, ended up in the bin

If you're going to have to rely on it, I really wouldn't go from some cheap no-name unit personally. Turning up for work 2 hours late on your first day because your new sat nav took you on a 40 mile 'diversion' wouldn't look good!

Personally I'd just fork out an extra 30-40 and by one of the entry level tomtom's or garmin's.
  • It will probably be slow and unreliable. What phone have you got? You can get branded Sat Nav apps for iPhone and Android starting at £20.

If you've got an Android-based device then you could even use Google Navigation which is free!

You may even consider getting a Nokia Lumia (starting at £69 here on Vodafone- bottom of table) which includes Nokia Drive, a popular free Navigation app from Nokia with free worldwide maps and updates- vid here.

I bought a new Becker sat nav a few years ago, when I tried to get the map update found that my model had been discontinued. I now have a new Garmin with free for the life of the unit map and traffic updates. Worth paying that bit extra for something that won't be out of date in six months time (as in my case).
