I cannot get a basic account. PLEASE HELP!

After recaliming my Bank Charges, My account has been closed.

Now everytime I try to apply just for a basic account, I get turned down. I NEED an account! Please can someone help advise me on where I can get one for my wages to be paid in and for direct debts to be paid.

I have even tried Citi, and they even said no.

Hi, Which banks have you tried so far?

Are you definately asking for a basic bank account as opposed to just a current account with no frills? (sorry if this is a silly question!).

Also, you tried Citi? Which account did you apply for? They don't really do basic accounts although the Access account is more 'basic' current account. They were quite lenient for a time but now they have tightened up their acceptance policy.

If you've not already tried, the Co-op 'Cashminder account' and the Yorkshire Bank 'Readycash' are good basic accounts.

Have you complained about the inconvenience of closure to the bank? This would entitle you to compensation. They might back down / offer a basic account as an alternative.
