My generation is being SCREWED to pay for the profligacy of those old crones that never paid enough into the system and wanted gold plated healthcare paid for by someone else!
...
How exactly are the younger generation being screwed though?
Don't you think things like the rise of the BRIC economies at the expense of the West will have a bigger impact on the wealth of the next generation?
It seems the boomers are a cause celebre at times.0 -
My Mum started work in 1948 aged 14 and worked till she was 75. She deserves every penny of her pension.
There are plenty who start work at 16 and will now work till 77 before state pension entitlement. What age did she start drawing her state pension may I ask? I bet it wasn't 75, or even 77.0 -

No because that's been cut in half to pay for the current boomer liabilities too.0 -
Yet another pointless and hysterical post by a sad and embittered ageist.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Because non boomer pensions are being cut TODAY to pay for liabilities such as expensive NHS care and a doubling of the national state pension since the 40s. University tuition fees of 9,000 per year. cutting housing allowance for under 25s. cutting of libraries up and down the country. all being done to pay for the over entitled boomers.
Axe winter fuel allowance for a start, Having a tv licence isnt a right so stop giving it pensioners for free. same with bus travel, youngsters have to go to work daily yet have to pay, so why shouldn't the free bus pass be means tested? Seeing as the state pension is a massive liability, a small reduction in it would lead to a huge impact in the deficit. As a bare minimum, if we are all in this together, the state pension should be frozen for 5 years and maximum age caps be issued for the most expensive care on the NHS.
They also need to increase the state pension age much faster than they are proposing to do at the moment.
Only then can the boomers claim, "we are all in this together".0 -

As. I said on another post gramps, just wait till the post boomer generation get into power. A lack of understanding now is going to harden hearts and any retrospective cuts to boomer benefits will be so much deeper when they finally come...0 -
The young are scum.
There. I expect 52 thanks.0 -

You can currently start taking a personal/company pension from age 55
You just need to start working and paying into one.
Investing from age 18 -55 gives you 37 years, 18 -65 gives 47 years, so plently of time to build up a pension or other investment vehicle to provide you with an income in later life.0 -

You won't be waiting until 77 though, will you? Well reading that article it seems that you will not be affected, I thought you had now left service?Pension rights accrued under the existing sections will be protected, so pensions earned up to the change-over date of April 2015 will be payable at the current retirement ages. The age at which members of the Armed Forces claim pensions could rise from 55 to 60 under government plans.
The changes, affecting all service personnel under the age of 45, are part of the government's plans to cut the cost of public sector pensions.
The new conditions are set to be introduced from April 2015.The Forces Pensions Society (FPS) said the forthcoming changes were a "very good deal" and "certainly not all bad news".
The society's general secretary, Major General John Moore-Bick, said: "We have ensured that armed forces pensions stay towards the top end of pensions in the public sector."'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
