Hi,
I currently have sky+ but have given 30 days notice of cancellation as its too expensive. I have a freeview built in lcd tv and want to be able to use the same features that sky+ offer, record 2 programmes etc.. What are my best options? Shall i get a pvr or will freeview+ do this? Really confused

Freeview+ is a marketing name for a line of Freeview PVRs designed specifically to record/pause/rewind Freeview.
The Freeview in your telly is just a built in receiver, meaning you don't need the set top box to just watch Freeview.
If you want to record Freeview you need a PVR of some sort. Freeview+ is designed to operate with Freeview in a simple and clear manner - eg record from the guide and series link etc.
There are PVRs out there that will do this but aren't labelled Freeview+, and there are PVRs that will do it in a fashion. The Freeview+ ones meet a certain set of design/operation criteria to be marketed as such.0 -
I would imagine you'd need the freeview+ as I'm guessing your tv doesn't have a dual tuner.0

You could buy a Freesat recorder and use the same twin cables that your Sky+ uses.
Humax Foxsat HDR is considered to be one of the best.0 -

Check your TV may record to a USB drive .

Check your TV may record to a USB drive
It doesn't come anywhere remotely close to Sky+ or Freeview PVRs or Freesat PVRs.
As a large part of the cost of a PVR is the hard disk drive, it also doesn't save that much money.0 -
I'm not much of a TV viewer myself, but my wife is and since she's still at work and often has late nights (who'd be a teacher?) she needed something to record some of her favourite programs.
So several years ago I bought her a Humax PVR9300T Freeview box and it has been brilliant. It sits in the kitchen with an LCD monitor on top, and despite years of being subjected to huge temperature and humidity variations, in fact everything a kitchen can throw at it, it's never faltered.
My wife loves the fact that it can record two separate programs at the same time as well as watching a third programme or watching one that's still recording but from the beginning when she gets home.
Best 'Brownie points' I ever earned.
It's still on sale through various outlets including Amazon.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -

I was in the same boat, I tried freeview but the signal is really bad here, so I went with Freesat, used the existing SKY dish and cables all worked fine + get clear pictures.
Just brought a cheap Bush Freesat HD+ box off ebay for £60 not had any problems with it (so far...)0
