Spending money for Cyprus (how much!)

Hi guys

We are off to Cyprus at the begining of June for 3 weeks and i'm trying to work out how much spending money to take!!.

Its for 2 adults and on child. I was budgeting for about £70 sterling thats about 60 cypriot pounds a day. We are going self catering but would like to eat out. Do you think thats enough??

Not sure how expensive Cyprus is that why i thought i would ask here!

Thanks everyone

It depends on where you will be eating - obviously you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you want. If we go SC, we tend to have a big breakfast & skip lunch, or if not - make our own rolls/sandwiches for lunch, & eat out in the evening. Another thing we did (I hope this doesn't sound tight!), rather than buying drinks around the pool, we picked up a cheap cool bag & bought them from the supermarket, a lot cheaper!

I personally didn't find eating out that expensive, but my friend disagrees with me - I suppose that's down to having different expectations/tastes. Where in Cyprus are you heading?

Where are you going in Cyprus?

It is pricey. My parents lived there for quite a while and I was surprised at how much I spent on just dd and myslef when we were there.

You will find around £25 -30 will go on an evening meal for 4. Petrol is much cheaper than here if you hire a car. I used to pay around 50p for a five mile bus journey, so buses reasonable too. I think the gift shops can be very overpriced as can small local food stores. If you are going to be having some meals in (like lunch) it might be worth a bus trip to the supermarket. Local produce such as fruit, veg and meat are all cheap at the supermarket. Alcohol is much cheaper than here, even in the resort bars. Macdonalds in resort costs more than here. Shoes are a really good buy and there is a good selection especially in Nicosia.

We went 2 years ago, 2 adults and 2 children.

Self catering and we ate out every night. Easily got through £100 sterling a day.
  • We went (2adults) to Protaras last October for 2 weeks. We were all inclusive and still managed to spend approx £800. We had two nights and meals out of the hotel and a few days trips but still money seemed to go quick.

    Hi,
We've been 4 times, 2 adults 2 children self catering.
We usually have breakfast in the apartment but eating out about 2-3 cyp pounds per head a go.
We would easily spend 40+ cyp pounds a night on food. Lunch time about 5 cyp pounds a head. We just couldnt afford to do this the first time we went and self catered for pretty much all the time.
When we go now we budget a 100 cypriot pounds a day. Expensive!! That doesnt include buying anything other than food and drink if we want to eat out all the time!

I have been severel times to Cyprus each time staying in Protarus.
I found it was about same prices as here in the UK.
Take cereals with you in your cases for breakfast and buy 2litre bottles of pop/water for around the pool/beach.
If this has helped you please don't forget to click Thanks, thankyou.

i allow £50.00 a day and use the creditcard for anything over that, but i normally don`t use the card. i would think for three meals a day £100.00 for the three of you should cover it. i don`t think Cyprus was that costly to eat out

firstly, as you are going self catering find the biggest supermarket( the one where the locals go) and get all the basics, cereal, milk butter, pop beer etc etc, that saves you a packet instead of shopping at the local small supermarkets. we usually eat breakfast in, make sandwiches and fruit for lunch and eat out every other night. its not too dear to eat out, but if you do it everynight for the whole time x 3 people it soon mounts up... i find that the rest of the evening is where your money goes! drinks etc..
i always sort my money into envelopes and open each day, some days i have money carried over from the previous day
