American Buffet ideas - posh?

Options
Hi Guys :D

Happy new year to you all

I'm looking some advice, I'm doing a Vegas theme night but its turning out to be rather posh, tux's glitzy dresses etc so I would like some typically American style food ideas but moving away from normal buffet stuff (sausage rolls etc)

Of course being a member of MSE I wanna do it as cheap as possibly!

If it helps its mostly men that will be present.

Erm, mini hotdogs? Mini burgers? Slaw (coleslaw)?

  • No specific suggestions, but if it's a Vegas night, how about going with a Red & Black theme for the food?

How about pigs in blankets (really just sausage rolls using frankfurter type sausages, but apparently with cheese inside too :)), mini pizzas (re-invented in the States!), fried chicken, ribs, mini burgers, bagels......and of course, cocktails :D

I've had my instructions for the cocktails funnily enough its the one thing everyones talking about!! :D

Red and black theme sounds fun

I'm beginning to think this is all going to mount up! :(
  • My American friend always served a 7 layer salad at big buffet events.

It went something like this -

In a deep bowl layer shredded lettuce, grated carrot, finely sliced onions ( spring or red work )sweetcorn, red pepper, bacon bits and topped with a thick covering of mayonnaise like a trifle.

    Buffalo wings.
    1. Go to Iceland (where Mums go)
    2. In the ready prepared chicken section, pick up bags of chicken wings. Spicy or for the feint-hearted, barbecue.
They are about £1.50 per bag.
They only need to go into the oven, when done, squirt the spicy ones with hot sauce, the others with barbecue sauce if you like.
Serve with celery sticks and some blue cheese dressing.
Very American, this is the stuff served in bars all over the country, so will go well with your vegas theme.

You could also serve little bowls of nacho chips (big supermarkets do a cheap version) bung some grated cheeses on top, with a bit of salsa, warm them to melt the cheese and serve.

Mini hotdogs with mustard, ketchup and cheese. Use the rolls you bake at home for these. Mini tinned hotdogs are great for these.
