Manor House Hotel, Okehampton

Has anyone been to this hotel in Okehampton? It isn't the cheapest, but it does offer full board and lots of activities to suit my two lads. It is also suitable for a wheelchair and I can hire one from the hotel quite cheaply, so that means more room in the car for our luggage.
I have looked for other catered holidays, with activities, but there seem to be so few around.
Any comments, opinions, or recommendations welcome

Hi, I just booked our 4th trip to the Manor this morning we have also stayed at the sister hotel The Ashbury twice. We are a family with two teenage boys now aged 17,13.The hotel looks quite old fashioned the bedrooms are not modern but are always clean and comfortable. The activities are brilliant, there is a big board with all the daily activities and you sign up and its all included or minimal cost for crafts, courts and bowling lanes also bookable. My sons are quite happy to go off and do things by themselves. We have done some things we haven't done before like pottery, enamelling, target bowls there are also daily inhouse competitions. There is covered walkways around the hotel and activities so it doesn't matter about the weather.Pool area is quite nice with sauna, steam and jacuzzi.Food is very traditional buffet style at breakfast, lunch and starters in the evening but then waiter service for mains, dessert and coffee.Although it is quite expensive you don't buy much else but drinks.Treatments are a very good price. You don't need to have all the rackets, etc it can all be hired for free at reception but they ask for a cash deposit so make sure you have some cash.If you have equipment take it with you it saves having to queue to hire.I recommend you take bottles of water or refillable bottles especially if you intend to do a lot of sport as moneysaving advice.

Thanks for the reply Alye. The craft activities sound great, not just for me but for my lads as well. They both enjoy crafts. I can help my disabled child with stuff he wouldn't otherwise get the chance to try.
We're not very sporty, but older son likes bowling. We all enjoy new age kurling, but not many places offer it. Both lads want to try 'proper' bowling, so we might get the chance to do that. The kids can go into the pool whilst I stay in the jacuzzi.
From the reviews on tripadvisor, we won't be spending much time int he bedrooms, so that shouldn't be a problem.
My daughter will probably come too, which would be great. She just needs to get time off work0 -
I can def recommend Potters Leisure Resort near Gt Yarmouth. We wen for a week with my sister family, they have a disabled daughter. There were 5 adults and four children and it was the best family holiday we have ever had.
The staff were A+, all the activities were included except clay pigeon shooting which was extra,Archery, rifle shooting, rock climbing, golf, badmington, crafts, quizes, swimming pool, fitness centre, ten pin bowling,Bowls(World Championships are at Potters each year) etc etc etc.. You can either stay self catering or hotel which we did.All rooms were a good size 24'x15' ,en-suite and spotless.Included was 4 meals a day and great entertainment each evening including a different show each night.
If you want a treat book the Black Rock Grill, its extra but you cook your own food on a "Hot Rock"...
I can't emphasis how good they were for children/people with disabilities. They have a number of rooms in the Hotel that have an interlocking door with the room next door so if your children can have a seperate room but you have access.

Thanks leveller - I'll have a look there too. I must admit my youngest is quite keen on Manor House though, as he will be able to do some woodwork0

Can definately recommend the Manor. We used to go there every year when our two kids were young - now 26 and 31!! Lots to do for everyone, whether its crafts or sports and once you have paid thats it - no more asking for more money for this and that(if its still the same!). As someone previously said, the decor is dated but it certainly doesnt detract from the enjoyment. The food is fantastic, the staff are most helpful - what more can I say! If you decide to go, hope you have a fab time! The biggest problem will be what to book yourself in for as there are so many activities!!!0

Thanks Caringa. My daughter's boyfriend wants to join us on holiday as well, but will pay his own way. I'm keen to have a massage or facial, and try the embroidery, so my daughter and her boyfriend will have the two lads a couple of times. They will have plenty of choice of activities though. They all like the pool as well, which I'm not keen on.
It's very helpful to know that the food is good. I have just rang to ask about feeding difficulties - they can cater for my son's problems. They can also cater for my nut allergy.0
