Is it just me or are the comparison sites only displaying quotes that they gain more fee's from and not giving you the best deal.
Home insurance was due at the bottom of quote page a few company's unable to quote so i decided to go to the web page of nationwide for a quote same details as the comparison site qoute came out £20 cheaper than the cheapest on the comparison site that was unable to quote for nationwide as well as others.
Any one else had similar experience.

Cheapest prices on the comparison websites £761. My renewal price £451.
Not what i was expecting. I thought some would get close.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
These sites should be trying to find you the best deal, but it's always worth remembering they receive commission for any insurance policy taken out through their site. Whenever I use a comparison site, I find the cheapest quote then apply again through that company's own site. I've saved money on several occasions doing this.0

No they don't display quotes that pay the highest fee, they display the cheapest price based on the details that you put in. The difference in fees between providers is minimal anyway.
It would have been Nationwide's (LV in reality) who decided not to quote on the comparison site because you were in the renewal cycle and they didn't want to pay a fee for someone who was their customer anyway.
It is very common for company's not to return a price in these circumstances.0 -

Comparison sites give you a list of deals they have available. That is all.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. ever think that maybe that the reply from nationwide was too slow to be included, or the link was broken at that point.
Many possible reasons they came back with no reply, other than the cynical one that, they pay less commission. :rotfl:
I always go via comparision sites to get a idea. Then go direct to the co's site to see how they compare.
Then again I use Quidco for cash back....
So cashback on compare site. Then cash back for ins direct with co.
Home contents ins this year came to a stonking 0.50p after cashback :T
£1.50 from compare site
£19 from the AA
ins cost £21 for basic cover.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
I will be a little more careful in the future and go to sites after comparison as well as the one;s that fail to quote.0

Just had my car insurance quote through from More than, £575 so did a comparison on compare the Market and got a quote of £307. Called MoreThan and they matched it and threw in a free Taste Card and nights hotel stay for up to £180! Was pleased enough with the £30 a month saving so the extras are a bonus - their customer services lady was excellent tooMember of Quidco and Dooyoo

I have some experience being a provider on a comparison website.
The top results from your search are those which pay the comparison site the biggest amount of money for the sale.
So, for example my company couldn't afford to compete with the bigger companies and we were swiftly dropped from the website. But that's not to say we couldn't have afford their customers the most attractive rate.
Having said that, comparison websites are useful as a quick way to get quotes from several providers.
...just take the results with a pinch of salt and don't totally write-off providers that aren't on those websites.0
