What Type Of Shower?

Hi

I am having a loft extension done and a condensing combi boiler installed.
What type of shower would I need to go with this type of boiler and does anyone have any recommendations please?

The water pressure in the house is not particularly great so I'm a bit worried.

Thanks in advance

  • Your mains pressure I assume will be OK if your fitting a combi

Take a look at https://www.toolstation.com combi shower item no: 45549

we install these in flats ! although, the minimum boiler we fit is 100,000 btu

check your incomming mains first assuming its ok you want a shower like this indicated or a pressure balancing valve

This is the boiler that is being fitted

Chose it because it is rated by Which report and has 3 year guarantee.

How do you check the mains pressure / incoming mains?

The loft company seem unable to answer my questions and say I will have to ask the plumber but who knows when he is turning up!

    Thanks

you need a pressure testing kit but assuming this works and your old system was just gravity ie hot tank in airing cupboard and cold tank in loft you will find a huge boost to the pressure in the house compared to your old system but you may notice a significant deterioration in the flow rates. ie good showers power showers but slow filling baths. also the combi performance will decrease when you are having demand from multiple outlets so not recommended for big houses or multiple bathrooms

My problem is that I have my daughter, son in law and grandchildren living with me and so lots of baths / showers needed. I was advised to get a combi as we have to wait for ages between each bath.

Is there anything that can be added to increase pressure? You say that there will be good pressure for showers but slow running baths?

    Thank you

Although you have a Combi boiler you can have an additional hot water tank fitted to create a surplus of hot water.

it sounds like you do not want a combi but a mains unvented tank system. which will give you great pressure for the showers and great flow rates for the bath. if this is not an option i have just seen a new combi with an integral tank that is supposed to give an equivalent of a 300 ltr ish tank. if you need any more specific advice just shout

Thanks for the advice but I already have the boiler to be fitted, as advised by the loft people. They just told me to get a condensing combi boiler and have it ready at the start of the job. I asked to speak to the plumber prior to ordering but was told that I would have to speak to him about the shower when he comes to fit the boiler and who knows when that will be?

Not too happy so that is why I asked for advice.

Well you could get back on to the fitter ans ask how much it would cost for them to add a copper boiler, to the system.
