Anyone signed up to this Energy switching scheme?

  • I know I had the power to save up to £250 on my energy bills before I clicked on that link.

Seriously, it's all been done before, the biggest consumer organisation (Which?) got nothing out of the market, I doubt this will be any different.
  • No obligation so how can it hurt to find out if you could save?

From what i see, they get you to supply your details and consumption and then bundle it with others and auction it via some third party company based in the Netherlands. Thats how they are supposed to get you the best deal. Presumably the third party company then has your personal details which they can exploit for marketry.

I am willing to bet good money that i can better broker an energy deal myself than get involved in this scheme.

I wonder how much of a rake off the councils get for pimping their residents to the third party company?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

If you miss the Manchester one then there is also a Collective switching scheme in the southeast also promoted in this case by Surrey county council

    www.surreyswitchandsave.org

It says Register before 25 February 2013 and again you don't have to live in Surrey to take part. Only2,036 have registered so far.

if i were a Manchester council tax payer, I'd be asking why the council is expending effort (at taxpayers expense) on things which I consider nothing to do with council services.

On the several occasions these schemes have cropped up on here, I can't recall anyone registering saying they could save money, yet several posting the rates eventually offered weren't as good as they could easily arrange themselves.

There's no way I'd trust my energy supplier choice to a council worker, however they dress these schemes up.
  • 42 of them at the last count - including the Labour Party - anything that can break the big 6 oligopoly I'm all for, but the UK is littered with mis-sold packages of everything from insurance to energy. In energy the young switch and the old don't. The young get the discount and the old are 'overcharged' to pay for that discount. It costs the electricity suppliers nothing. There is to this day no competition regardless of how many suppliers there are - 99% of the nation are supplied by the big six.

Thinking of going Collective Switching - Questions :

    • is this service free for me to use?
    • how will I know if your offer is better than my current one?
    • will I receive a personalised quote?
    • I am already on a fixed term contract, will I need to pay a termination fee?
    • I am in debt to my current supplier – am I still able to join the scheme?
    • How will I find out the terms and conditions of the offer?
    • is there anyone that I can contact during the process?
    • Will you receive a commission or fee from the supplier if I take up the offer?
    • Will my information be shared, sold or used in any other ways?
    • I do not want to change my payment method – will this work for me?
    • will I be on a fixed term contract?
    • how long will the new deal last for?
    • Do I have to go through with the switch if I sign up?
