Real tough problem

Options
In our office we can't view our own website. At home I can view it. The company who sold us the domain name says everyone else in the world can see it (used megaproxy.com). The company who host the website can see it and I can FTP up to it. If I use my laptop in the office and piggy back the wifi network I can't see it. If I use my laptop else where I can't see it. Orange the ISP says it's nothing to do with them as they don't block things. We can see every other site we want to in the office just not our own. Email works. Phone works. Why can't I see my own website.

I'm tempted to offer a reward for solving this. I can'ts ee any solution at present. Our IT expert can't solve it. Is there a MSE person who can?

can you post the website address (it would be a great help!)
  • If you can do a couple of tests on the domain affected,

    1) Go to Start > Run > Type "cmd" without quotes and hit enter

    2) Type "tracert www.domain.com" without quotes, replacing https://www.domain.com with the domain affected and press enter.

    3) Type "telnet https://www.domain.com 80" without quotes and press enter. What happens? Any error?

When you say you can't see it, what do you mean? Do you get a blank page? A 404 not found or something else?

Can you view all other websites from work or are there certain ones that are blocked by your company?

Are you using any type of blocking software, netnanny, cyberpatrol etc etc and what type of firewall are you using?

It does sond very strange, but I am sure that it will end up being something simple!

what type of router do you have, can you see it if you put the ip address in rather than the name, are you using a proxy server, the answer to blacksheeps question is probably particularly relevant if the website is hosted internally.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Personally I put it down to (psychic)albertross posting a response on this thread which led to a spontaneous correction of the problem.
