FIRST DIRECT wont pay out on Maestro/Switch

My o/h asked me to post this.
He has a lot of money from when he sold his flat. He tried to buy something from NS&I (National Savings and Investments) to the tune of £15K. This is money he has in his account.
NS&I tried to take the money (as requested) from his account. First Direct declined (did not contact O/H in anyway). So he gets a call from NS&I saying the funds were declined.
He called FD last night. They have said anything over a certain threshold (she wouldnt confirm how much but thought £10K) would automatically be declined fomr a switch/maestro transaction. FD said to call them before the transaction so a "window" could be open for an hour or so for a big transaction to take place. Failing that he should write out a cheque.
They used to be sooo helpful. I remeber I was in France once and they called to say someone was using my card in France - and i said yes its me!

overdraft was 1500 now 1360 must try harder.
loan was 13705.24 now 9791.62 due to be paid off 01/02/2011 but gonna aim for 01/05/2009!!
amex cc was 4210 now 3650.48 lobt at 4.9% due to be paid off in 01/02/08
total owed was £19415.24 now its £14802.10 going down!!!:money:
I am proud to be dealing with my debt!

First Direct have gone down hill rapidly, their customer service is appalling. I closed my account with them a year or so ago after dealing with their next to useless customer service team.
