E-On Boiler Care

Had an E-on gas engineer visit this evening to look at my boiler which was leaking slightly. Having looked at the boiler for a while he said the heat exchange seal had gone and was now deemed dangerous so would need to cap the supply. He then spent over an hour trying to establish the part number before saying the repairs couldn't be done now until after 1pm on Tuesday!!! as after 3pm E-On cant order parts??

So for the best part of 4 days I now have no heating, gas oven/hob/grill for cooking and no hot water except for an immersion. I have my 3 children living with me and dont think this is acceptable at all. The engineer wasn't particularly bothered by this delay and said its all he could do

What would you suggest? He needs to get a replacement part.
  • i agree with above, however what he should have done is cap the boiler & leave the rest working unless there was a prob with that too

Did you consider British Gas Homecare?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Hi linscstiger

I’m sorry our engineer was unable to fix your boiler without ordering a part.

They do carry certain parts with them but sometimes it’s not possible to cover every eventuality.

From what you’ve said, it sounds as though the boiler was potentially dangerous so best to be thorough.

Sorry again for the delay. I do understand the discomfort at this time of year, especially with children involved.

so maybe you can tell us why he sealed the meter instead of capping the boiler, or don't your engineers carry 15/22mm conex caps

Try 11 days without heating, 4 engineer visits and im still not convinced its working properly. Had to move out of home for the best part of a week due to having a 2 year old and no hot water for 4 days at all!. Not overly impressed with the quickness of service at all!.

Perhaps the OP #1 could quote the make and model of their boiler? I suspect that most independent RGIs would be able to source the part at an over the counter outlet within a day or so unless it was an obscure appliance or part.

Also could the OP confirm whether the boiler was the only gas appliance in the home?

    Sorry southcoastrgi, not that technical.

Our Central Heating guys will be able to explain to the OP though.

    Hi adamhodg

I'm really sorry you've had such a poor experience.

We've a complaints process in place to investigate all cases where customers tell us we've fallen down. I'd strongly recommend you use this.

There's full details about this on our website. Alternatively, if you drop an email to the address in my Profile with the details of what happened, I'll be happy to start the ball rolling.

the OP said they had a gas oven/hob/grill which if i am reading it correctly got turned off as well (unless the OP worded it incorrectly in which case i look a total prat), which means your engineer turned off the meter & put a sealing disc in preventing any gas being used in the property, when in fact his remit (if he considered the boiler to be ID if it was AR then all he needed to do was turn off the power to the boiler & tell the OP not to use it) would have been to disconnect the boiler from the gas & cap the gas supply to the boiler, thus leaving the OP still able to use the cooker.

hopefully my reply isn't too technical for you
