Car not fit for purpose

Hello all. I am looking for some advice. I bought a 2 yr old Ford Kuga from that well known old gentleman Mr Clark. At its 3 yr service it went to the garage for the first time before the warranty ran out in case anything needed done. All was well but a few weeks later the car broke down, engine malfunction. The car went to the Ford dealership, Mr Clark and they reset the fault codes and restarted it. I was charged for the diagnostics and sent away. This has now happened 4 more times, costing me several hundred pounds, time, childcare problems and an complete mistrust of the car. I went to collect it tonight after nearly a week in the garage again. I never got out the forecourt this time and again it broke down with the same fault. I have called Ford direct for help, they say they will get it looked at by their own mechanics.
In the meantime my wife is refusing to have the car back at home. It was bought under HP. I am meeting the salesman who sold it to us tomorrow. What can I expect from him, what are my rights? I believe that I should reasonably expect a 3yr old car to be fit for purpose. I am changing the car but don't want the wool pulled over my eyes with this one.

Thanks for any replies or advice in advance!

I think your best hope is to try to push for some sort of a 'preferential' deal on your next car if you're trading in anyway.

I think it would be fairly hard to reject as not 'fit for purpose' after a year, and even if they did they would be quite within their rights to make an allowance for the use you've had out of the car.

What are the fault codes though? Just resetting the light wont do much.

One of those issues that is intermittent and wont repeat when they test it i presume.

    Cars breakdown. Even new ones.

If you can afford to upgrade then you can do that but they wont do it all for free. You have had it for a year.
