Ist post so bear with me please, I am looking to change my car at the moment and have seen a 1.9cdti 2005 Vectra, I currently have a 2001 Megan 1.4, anyway am looking to part exchange( I know I can prob get slightly more selling private but figure by the time I pay for new road tax and mot there wont be much of a difference) The deal they are offering is £2000 for my car trade in?, the Vectra has screen price of £9575, taking off the £2000 leaves 7595, The finance repayments I have been offered will be £183.87 for 4 years, The Apr was 9.2 with a flat of 4.05, mate works in the finance side of the garage and says this is the best he can find me!! I think it works out I pay just over a £1000 more over the 4 years than if I could just pay it??, they have also offered £20 deisel and 6 months road tax. now I dont think my mate would screw me over although he has just started with the garage! but I can't figure out if I am getting a good deal or not.
any help would be very very appreciated

Here are my thoughts. The trade in on your Megane is probably OK, not sure of the model/mileage but it is in the ballpark. To my mind the Vectra is overpriced by about £500. (not the case if it is a Vauxhall garage and its a Network Q car) Again not sure of the model but for that money it should not be a base car, what is it SXI, Elite, SRi??
The finance rate is OK for a garage but if you have a good credit rating you can get a personal loan at a cheaper APR (nearer 6.5%) this will save you some money. If you wish to accept the offer/finance on the table here is what I would recommend:
    - reduce the price of the change by £500 - or walk away there are plenty of other Vectras available.
    - ask for a full tank of diesel
    - 12 months road tax
    - at least one years warranty in addistion to the remaining manufacturers warranty.
    - full service and valet

Remember, the dealer will also get a commission from the finance company as well as any profit in the car. Is it a Vauxhall main dealer?

It is a Vauxhall Garage that I am looking at, it is an 1.9 cdti Energy 5 door model, I think it is network Q, if I get a price drop and rest of what you have said you think it is a good enough deal that I will be gettin??
    (bigger family means bigger car:D :D )

If its the car you want, then I think the deal is OK with a small price reduction and the extras I suggest. I suspect the dealer will suck his teeth and tell you he is not making anything on the car but that is their usual sales routine. Be firm, stand your ground and if he doesnt relent or at least make a big effort to meet your demands, then walk away.

What difference does it make if it is a network Q car and vauxhall dealer as to other dealers??

Network Q, is widely regarded as one of the best manufacturers used car schemes. Network Q is a Vauxhall scheme, they offer a 30 day no quibble car exchange policy if you are not satisfied with the car. The salesman should explain all.

As an aside, if you would like you can use the 'Thanks' button in the lower right corner of the box!

    Happy motoring!
