Hi I took out a £5000 loan in 2003 as a self employed electrician plus £1000 ppi so £6000 in total, I was out of work over half way through payments but could not claim as I was self employed I owed £989 on the loan so stopped paying them as I said this was the PPI that they should not have charged me.They sent me letters demanding the remaining balance for a couple of years then handed it over to Debt collectrs, I have not heard anything regards the loan since December 2011 but I want to sort things out. On the 20/03/2007 I sent RBS a letter to claim back all my bank charges but they told me they would not persue the case any further untill the courts have come to a conclusion regards claiming back charges and to this day they have never mentioned my charges but still want the PPI they mis sold me. It seems they can steal off me but not give me back what is rightfully mine if I stole I would be prosecuted in court. I was nieve and stupid and young when I took out the loan (20), and would like to get a very good credit rating going for myself I even got refused a "bad credit credit card!! Aqua card. I don't have any finances just a phone contract and car insurance which has never missed a payment.
I appreciate any help and advice you give me even if it's" that's what you get for being a numb skull"
Thanks in advance.
P.S if I do manage to claim back charges from RBS will it be 6 years back from now (which will be nothing as I haven't banked with them since) or from when I initially sarted the claim?
Thanks again

That isnt how PPI works in most cases. You say you were out of work. Did you cease to be self employed, stop paying your class 2 NI and sign on? If yes, then most PPI will pay out as you are then unemployed. If you just stop working or business is light but you are still trading then that is not unemployment.I owed £989 on the loan so stopped paying them as I said this was the PPI that they should not have charged me.
Not a good idea. You knacker your credit record in the process. On the 20/03/2007 I sent RBS a letter to claim back all my bank charges but they told me they would not persue the case any further untill the courts have come to a conclusion regards claiming back charges and to this day they have never mentioned my charges
The banks won the court case so your "claim" effectively ended when that happened. It seems they can steal off me but not give me back what is rightfully mine if I stole I would be prosecuted in court
They havent stolen from you. Any retailer in the same position, irrespective of the type of retail, would not be prosecuted.I appreciate any help and advice you give me even if it's" that's what you get for being a numb skull"
Can you let us know what you are trying to achieve first. You sort of slip between PPI and bank charges in your post.
