Please forgive me if there's an obvious answer! I have an LG 32LH3000 TV (http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-32LH3000-lcd-tv) . I've just bought some Bose Companion 2 laptop speakers (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bose%C2%AE-Companion%C2%AE-Multimedia-Speaker-System/dp/B003SOXG6K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357318820&sr=8-1) which sound great with my laptop. The guy in the shop said I should also be able to plug them into my TV using the headphone socket, but this doesn't work. I can't quite figure out from the tech spec what I should do, and what outputs are available. If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful!

Thank Penrhyn. I've tried the headphone socket, and it doesn't work with that. I've checked the socket works with actual headphones, which is does, which is why I wonder if there's any other kind of connectivity I need to use to get the speakers to work? I should say that I have a Virgin V+ box attached to the TV, as well as a DVD player.0 -
Are you turning up the volume on the TV, and on the speakers? A headphone output isn't a fixed-level output.
There appear to be two inputs to the speakers - have you tried both? Have you made sure the speakers have power? Tried the speakers with other sources?0 -

Yes, the speakers work fine with both my laptop and MP3. I turned up the volume on the TV and speakers when plugged in, and nothing. I can hear the faint hiss from the speakers, but no TV sound.0 -
Hi, when you connect the system via the headphone socket to the tv did you go into the tv menu and switch off the tv speakers to enable the headphone output?
Otherwise the system also has phono connectors ( red/white plugs ) these could be used IF the tv has some phono ouput sockets .0 -

You 're using the same input cable for the TV as you do for the laptop and mp3? Is it a 3.5mm stereo jack?
If you turn the volume on the speakers full up with nothing connected, do you get the same level of hiss as above, or less?
You've tried a pair of headphones with the TV and you successfully get sound through the headphones?
Compare the plugs on the headphone cable and on the Bose cable - are they EXACTLY the same? Given your symptoms, it would suggest that the plug on the Bose cable isn't making any contact with the socket on the TV set.
The cable itself and the speakers must be OK because the Bose works with laptop and mp3.
The socket on the TV must be OK as it works with headphones.
Logically, that suggests the fault lies at the interface of the two.0 -
OP if you give up on the headphone connection you could get a Scart to phono adapter and a phono to 3.5 mm jack lead for the Bose.

Good thinking about the scart to phono adapter plus from the Bose specs. it would also appear to have a phono input so no need for the phono to 3.5 jack lead ?0 -
Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions. I tried it again today in the headphone socket, and wiggled it around a bit, and behold - it started working! So I guess the issue is with the connection. I'm just getting used to the sound coming straight out of the speakers rather than out of the television itself.0
